Jan. 23–Hampton fire officials are warning of a scam involving the city’s volunteer firefighters.

Officials said on Facebook they were made aware over the weekend of a phone scam to solicit money for Hampton’s volunteer firefighters.

The robo callers are using local fire station numbers, the post states.

"The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue and our volunteer departments do not request donations," officials said. "If you are ever approached in person, all of our members have city-issued ID’s."

Officials urge residents to report the robo calls to the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov. Anyone with questions for the fire department can call 757-727-6580.
